Los Angeles and Palm Springs Twin-Centre - 8 Nights

Hollywood glamour then desert-pool cool: 4 nights in LA and 4 in Palm Springs, with flights.

Start this eight-night California twin-centre with Skylord Travel in Los Angeles. Spend four nights exploring Hollywood Boulevard and the Walk of Fame, the views from Griffith Observatory towards the Hollywood sign, the art and gardens of the Getty Center and the pier and beach at Santa Monica.

Then travel east to Palm Springs, about two hours inland, for four nights in the desert, where palm-lined streets, mountain views and poolside lounging set a slower pace. Travel between the two cities is not included. Return flights from the UK are arranged on an open-jaw basis, so you fly into Los Angeles and home from Palm Springs without retracing your steps.

Fly from the UK to Los Angeles and make your way to your hotel for a 4-night room-only stay. Los Angeles is 8 hours behind the UK, so an early night will help you adjust.

Los Angeles

In Los Angeles you will be spoilt for choice. Spend some time on Venice Beach made famous by the Baywatch TV series and the setting for many films, featuring roller skaters and lifeguard huts. Visit the boutiques on Rodeo Drive and perhaps take a Movie Star tour in Beverly Hills. Visit the Chinese Mann's Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard where you will find the Walk of Fame and see how your hands measure up to those of Hollywood stars cast in the concrete sidewalk outside the theatre. Anaheim is the Home of Disneyland and also a western style Rollercoaster park called Knotts Berry Farm. Long Beach is the final resting place of the Original Queen Mary which has been converted into a floating museum/restaurant/hotel.

Walk the Hollywood Walk of Fame, then head up to Griffith Observatory for views of the city and the Hollywood sign. Sunset is a popular time to visit.

Spend the day by the ocean on Santa Monica Pier and along the boardwalk to Venice Beach, with its skaters, street performers and canals.

Visit the hilltop Getty Center (entry is free; parking is charged) or join a film studio tour. A car or ride-hailing app is the easiest way around this spread-out city.

Make your way to Palm Springs, about two hours east by road; travel is not included, and scheduled FlixBus coaches run from Los Angeles Union Station. Then make your way to your hotel for a 4-night room-only stay and settle in by the pool as the desert sun sets behind the mountains.
